An email heralding the commencement of a fresh project typically brings excitement to any custom motorcycle workshop. However, the team at Moto Adonis in The Netherlands was particularly thrilled upon receiving their latest project brief. While the essence of the brief resembled many others, there was one striking detail—the client specifically demanded a customized Honda CBX 1000, undoubtedly one of the most iconic machines ever engineered.
And so Moto Adonis started with full dedication with the thunderous roar of this six-cylinder inline engine, meticulously crafted by the Honda experts, transcends mere sound; it embodies a symphony of raw power that echoes rebellion on two wheels.
In homage to the CBX’s illustrious heritage, Arthur and Job retained the bike’s original fuel tank but left no stone unturned elsewhere. Their objective was to contemporize the bike while accentuating its colossal engine. Although describing an 80s-era six-cylinder superbike as ‘lithe’ might be a stretch, this CBX stands out as one of the sleekest iterations we’ve encountered.
Moto Adonis commenced by refining the classic Honda’s chassis. The stock 19F/18R Comstar wheels made way for robust 17” rims from Kineo, now adorned with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires. At the front, Öhlins upside-down forks and twin Brembo brake calipers were installed, while at the rear, the original twin-shock suspension gave way to an Öhlins mono-shock linked to a single-sided swingarm from a Ducati Monster S4R—a modification that reportedly required considerable effort to perfect.
Closer inspection reveals custom linkages discreetly integrated into the bespoke subframe. An aluminum tail cowl, meticulously shaped to complement the classic CBX fuel tank, was fabricated by Moto Adonis, with Marcel Miller adding a sporty leather cover to complete the seat. The taillight and license plate are positioned rearward on a custom-made bracket attached to the swingarm.
Having delved deep into chassis enhancements, Moto Adonis spared no effort in refining the engine. Fortunately, assistance was readily available nearby. “We were fortunate to discover that the foremost six-cylinder expert in Europe is just 25 km away,” remarked Job.
“Bert from SixCenter aided us in comprehensively overhauling the engine, down to the minutest bolt. Certain tasks are best entrusted to specialists!”
Ensuring that the Honda CBX 1000 emitted a worthy soundtrack was equally crucial. Moto Adonis and their client unanimously opted for a six-into-six exhaust system, a decision the team promptly executed. Three headers snake down each side of the bike, bending at the swingarm before terminating at MAD Exhausts mufflers.
After converting the clutch to a hydraulic system, Arthur and Job equipped the handlebars with Brembo brake and clutch master cylinders. An LED headlight illuminates the front, complemented by two Motogadget dials—a nostalgic nod to 80s aesthetics. The bars feature micro switches, Motogadget grips, bar-end turn signals, and mirrors, with the bike’s wiring revamped using a Motogadget control box.
The bike’s new livery, simple yet fitting for this two-wheeled hot rod, predominantly features metallic blue with a black stripe flanked by gold pinstripes, running from front to rear—a flawless finish for this formidable masterpiece.
